Department Overview
The rapidly growing Department of Media and Communication is part of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Young and dynamic, the department is home to academic staff from over ten countries around the world. It delivers a popular BA Media and Communication Studies, which offers a rich selection of theoretical modules in journalism, digital media, film studies, cultural studies, and creative industries, as well as media production modules. The department also offers a popular MSc Media and Communication that contains two pathways: the practice-oriented Professional Communication pathway and the research-led Global Media and China pathway. In addition, staff recruit and supervise PhD students in their own research area. Collegial and vibrant, staff members are committed to research-led teaching and cutting-edge research.
Responsibilities and Duties
We seek to appoint one candidate (exact position title based on experience) with professional and practical experience and research interests in media and communication industries.
The appointee is expected to perform the following duties:
·Publish high-quality practice-based research leading to high-quality outputs in specialized journals/publications
·Coordinate and deliver courses in the department’s existing programs
·Supervise the research informed
·practice based projects of undergraduate and postgraduate students
·Advise undergraduate and postgraduate students
·Provide service to the Department, School and University, and the wider scholarly community
Essential qualifications/experiences
·Strong record of teaching in higher education
·Substantial professional experience in digital and multimedia production and at least an MA/MFA in media production or a related field
·Advanced proficiency in media production equipment and software and a demonstrable knowledge of cutting-edge technology
·Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues in the Department, School and University.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
·A certificate in learning and teaching in higher education
·Experience in supervision of theory-informed practical projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Compensation Package
Range of Annual Base Pay:
Lecturer: 280k-320k RMB
Assistant Professor: 360k-400k RMB
Associate Professor: 450k-490k RMB
Members of academic staff are entitled to subsidies for accommodation, travel, and children’s education, medical insurance, and a one-time relocation allowance is provided. Overseas staff may receive a tax “holiday,” depending on nationality and personal circumstances.
Citizenship and Visa Regulations
Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas. Please be advised candidates over 65 may be not eligible for a work visa in the P.R. China.
